British Trade Commissioner for Europe visits the FlexBase Technology Center in Laufenburg

Distinguished Visitor in Laufenburg

During her visit, Ceri Morgan CBE gained insight into the scope of the project and the role that the planned vanadium-flow battery storage system is expected to play in the future for the integration of renewable energy, the stabilization of the European power grid, and the energy supply for the planned AI data center and technology campus.

Particular emphasis was placed on the collaboration between FlexBase and Invinity Energy Systems. As the British technology partner, Invinity is contributing vanadium flow battery technology, which is particularly well-suited for large stationary storage applications. Together with other European project partners, a storage solution is being developed in Laufenburg that will contribute to the integration of renewable energy and provide additional flexibility in the power system.

The visit also underscores the project’s international significance. The Laufenburg Technology Center addresses key challenges facing energy systems far beyond Switzerland’s borders: the integration of renewable energy, grid stability, security of supply, and the growing energy demands of digital infrastructure.
